Linn-Benton takes two from Warriors

Walla Walla Community College chased the Roadrunners all day here Saturday in NWAC non-conferenc baseball action. Linn-Benton raw away with two wins, pulling out 8-5 and 10-7 wins over the Warriors.

The Warriors, with single runs in the first three innings, led 3-1 after three in the opener. The Roadrunners chipped away to narrow the gap to 4-3 after five.

LBCC exploded for four in the sixth, and the Warriors didn’t have a response on this day.

Colton Cosner led the Roadrunners with three hits as Linn Benton pounded out 13 hits in taking game one.

Larry DeWitt, Brandon Wagstaff, and Futa Ikuma led the Warrior 10-hit attack with two hits each. Ikuma, Jacob Haas, and Robby Heiberg each had RBI hits.

The Road runners got six strong innings out of starting pitcher Kyle Strickland as the Warriors trailed 7-2 after six. The Roadrunners added on and led 10-3 entering the bottom of the ninth.

The Warriors fought back, but came up short. WWCC scored four times to run the final to 10-7.

Spencer DesBiens led the RoadRunners with two hits, including his first home run of the year, and he drove in three runs.

For the Warriors, Sean Coffey led the way with three hits. Colten Peha added two hits to the 12-hit Warrior attack.

“We didn’t play up to our ability, and a quality opponent made us pay for it,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said. “Hopefully the guys can bounce back tomorrow (Sunday) and play the game the way they have been taught to play.”

The Warriors host Grays Harbor in a twin bill with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. this morning at the Tausick Way Field.
