PASCO — Walla Walla Community College and Columbia Basin Community College entered Saturday’s NWAC East Region baseball doubleheader tied for second in the East. After the dust settled Saturday night, the Warriors and Hawks remained tied.
The teams took separate routes to maintaining second place. The Hawks had to go extra innings to down the Warriors 6-5 in 12 innings in the opener. The Warriors bounced back to defeat the Hawks 12-1 in seven innings in the nightcap.
“We had opportunities in the first game from the ninth inning on,” Warrior coach Dave Meliah said. “We couldn’t take advantage and it caught up to us.
“It was great to come back in game two,” Meliah added. “We had that kind of game where everybody swung the bat well.”
The Warriors and Hawks stand at 8-4 in East Region play, one game behind East-leading Spokane (9-3).
The Warriors host Yakima Valley Wednesday.
