Warriors take East #3 seed to Regionals

YAKIMA — Walla Walla Community College cemented a playoff spot, although not the No. 2 East region seed, here Saturday in NWAC East Region baseball action.

Yakima Valley, with a one game lead over the Warriors for the No. 2 seed, took the opener 8-4. The Warriors got an eight inning six-hit effort from Carson Woolery in the night cap to post a 4-3 win and split the double dip.

The Warriors take the No. 3 East seed to the playoffs. WWCC finishes at 17-11 while the Yaks hang onto the second seed at 18-10.

Yakima took control early in the opener taking a 3-0 lead after two. The Warriors scored twice in the fifth to get within 3-2 but the Yaks put up a three spot in the home fifth and the Warriors got no closer as the Yaks went on to post the 8-4 win.

Kealen Martin blasted a solo home run for the Warriors. Hayden McCarney led the offense with three hits and two RBI.

The Warriors and Yaks came out swinging in game two. The Warriors led 3-2 after two. The Yaks would tie it at 3-3 with a singleton in the fifth.

The Warriors won it with a run in the seventh. Woolery got the job done on the hill for WWCC. He gave up only two earned runs through eight and left the game with a 4-3 lead. Jarrod Molnaa came on to work a perfect ninth and preserve the 4-3 win.

Josh Kutzke led the Warrior offense as he accounted for three of the Warriors six hits.
