Warriors win in extra innings to earn split with Columbia Basin

Walla Walla Community College split a doubleheader with Columbia Basin in Northwest Athletic Conference East Region baseball action here on Saturday.

The Warriors lost the first game, 5-2, before bouncing back with a 7-6 victory in 13 innings.

“Our guys just kept scratching and clawing and believing that something great was going to happen,” Warriors coach Dave Meliah said. “We got a lucky break too, when (Robby) Heiberg’s double in the 12th got lost in the lights and we were able to tie it up. But, the guys never gave up. I’m really happy for Justin Macdonald. He’s a guy who doesn’t get a lot of playing time and got in because of an injury and he came up huge for us.”

Walla Walla (18-12 overall, 10-6 in the East) will return to action on Wednesday, with a doubleheader at Big Bend.
