Fall Sports In Full Swing
VOLLEYBALL, WOMEN'S SOCCER, AND MEN'S SOCCER STRAPPING IT UP FOR COMPETITION
As the high summertime temperatures starts to cool off, the long wait for the start of Fall sports is finally over. The Walla Walla Community College Dietrich Activity Center has been buzzing with the return of the WWCC Volleyball and both Women's and Men's Soccer teams. All three teams have wasted no time in jumping into their preparation for the beginning of their respective seasons, and all three teams are incredibly excited to get things going.
Going into her third season as Head Coach of the Warriors Volleyball program, Coach Brooke Kaawa is ready to make her mark and is really looking forward to going into the season with a new coaching staff and her first full class of recruits. Coach Kaawa is returning a number of players from the 2023 season, led by Sophomore outside-hitter / right-side-hitter, Kadence Barnes, who racked up just under 170 kills last season. The WWCC Volleyball program finished with a 6-16 record in the 2023 season.
This will mark the second year in Coach Jordan Hacker's return to lead the WWCC Women's Soccer program, and eighth overall. After finishing the 2023 campaign with a respectable record of 10-6-3, Coach Hacker and the WWCC Women's Soccer program are returning with a large group of sophomore leadership and experience to lead the way. Sophomore Forwards, Kenna Berry and Lexi Bott, both return after scoring five goals and tallying eleven points, each. Both would tie for second in each category on last year's club.
Coach Casey Collins will look to continue his impressive start as the Head Coach of the WWCC Men's Soccer program as he enters year four of his reign. Coach Collins has led the WWCC Men's Soccer program to the NWAC tournament each of the last two years, losing 1-0 in the 2022 NWAC Championship game, and finishing in the top eight in the 2023 season. Coach Collins is excited about his returning core, even amidst losing the 2023 NWAC East MVP, Nathan Alvarado, and Sophomore Forwards, Kevin Jimenez and Ricardo Contreras, who combined for eighteen goals and fifty points total last year. Out of the fourteen returning players from the 2023 season, Dean Figeoura led the way with four goals and nine points.
The WWCC Volleyball program will open their official competition schedule on August 20th, with an exhibition matchup scheduled at Yakima Valley College. Both Women's and Men's Soccer programs will start their competition schedule on August 15th, here in Walla Walla against South Puget Sound Community College.
