Walla Walla Community College’s Missael Lopez tied the score with only about two minutes left, and the Warriors salvaged a 1-1 split with Columbia Basin in their Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer match on the WWCC field Wednesday.
Walla Walla (5-1-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the East) slipped two points behind first-place Spokane in the regional standings as the Sasquatch topped North Idaho, 2-0, on Wednesday.
WWCC and Columbia Basin scored their goals late.
Warriors sophomore goalie Henry Hernandez recorded five saves in the tie.
Columbia Basin’s Jesus Delgado put the visiting Hawks ahead, 1-0, in the 63rd minute and they appeared en route to a victory, until Walla Walla freshman Alex Sotelo assisted Lopez on his clutch goal.
The Warriors next play Saturday afternoon at last-place North Idaho.
