Men notch another shutout

ONTARIO — Walla Walla Community College’s men’s soccer team tallied goals in both the first and second half here Saturday during a 2-0 Northwest Athletic Conference East Division victory over Treasure Valley.

The Warriors’ league-opening triumph was their fourth straight and improved their overall record to 4-0-1.

“It was a good day overall,” WWCC coach Ben Rotert said. “TVCC came out very strong for the first 20-25 minutes. We withstood the pressure and then settled into our game.”

Sam Borja set up Shambel West at the 32-minute mark for the game’s first goal and Missael Lopez provided WWCC with an insurance marker in the 69th minute.

“We passed the ball well and got everybody involved,” Rotert said. “We hd a plan to connect passes and attack from the width and the boys executed the plan very well.”

Walla Walla goalie Jorge Llerenas earned the shutout. He made four saves in his 90-minute stint between the pipes.

“This was our fourth shutout in five games,” Rotert said. “I’m so excited for the guys in keeping clean sheets.”

The Warriors’ next match is Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. — a division counter at Wenatchee Valley.

“We have a tough opening schedule with four of our first five league matches on the road,” Rotert said. “We’re so glad to get three points early and get ready to go to Wenatchee on Wednesday.”
