WWCC men lose to Spokane, 2-1

A Chase Reidt penalty kick in the 72nd minute was the difference Saturday afternoon as Spokane picked up a 2-1 victory over Walla Walla Community College in Northwest Athletic Conference Eastern Region men’s soccer action at Warrior Field.

“Tough day for us,” WWCC coach Ben Rotert said. “We made too many mental mistakes and gave up the penalty.”

Ian Schimandle, off an assist by Reidt, got the Sasquatch on the board in the fifth minute.

“We started slow and gave up a goal early,” Rotert said.

Juan Martinez pulled the Warriors even at the 13-minute mark, assisted by Enrique Leal.

“I was happy with how we responded once we finally got our feet under us,” Rotert said. “We forced them into making some mistakes and we were able to capitalize on those. Christian Torres found Juan, who combined nicely with Enrique, and he (Leal) found Juan back and he smashed the ball in the back of the net.”

WWCC slipped to 3-2 and 6-3.

Walla Walla hosts league-leading and undefeated Columbia Basin next Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
