WWCC men’s soccer edges Pierce, 1-0

TUKWILA, Wash. — Walla Walla Community College’s Missael Lopez scored unassisted in the 18th minute, leading the Warriors to a 1-0 victory over Pierce at the Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer friendlies here on Thursday.

Warrior goalie Alex Grimaldo recorded the shutout with four saves.

“This match was our opening match of the season,” WWCC coach Ben Rotert said. “We had two early scrimmages, this was a culmination of three weeks of training and it was great to get a result.

“We started the game off well, had some good early chances,” Rotert continued. “We had 2-3 really good chances in the second half to seal the game that we didn’t convert on.

“Overall, I’m happy for the guys to get the shutout and our overall energy towards the match,” Rotert added. “Everyone contributed and it showed.”

The Warriors are backin action this afternoon at 2 p.m. against Whatcom Community College.
