WALLA WALLA — Clackamas swept Walla Walla 11-10 and 12-3 Sunday in an NWAACC softball doubleheader at Warriors Field on Tausick Way.
The Warriors outhit the Cougars 15-12 in the first game, led by the trio of Paige Pontarolo, Sam Robillard and Brook Simpson. They each collected three hits in the game, with Simpson driving in five runs, Pontarolo two and Robillard scoring three times.
Walla Walla led 3-0 after two innings, but the Cougars scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth to take the lead and then five in the fifth to take command of the game. Clackamas pushed across a much needed insurance run in the top of the seventh before WWCC scored four times in the bottom of the frame to pull within a single run.
The second game was not close as Clackamas unleashed its long-ball power. Samantha Owirka, Rauhaun Sells and Kayla Stevens all hit home runs in the game, with Sells knocking in four runs in the game.
Courtney Verity had two of Walla Walla’s seven hits in the game.
Walla Walla fell to 0-4 on the season and Clackamas improved to 4-0.
The Warriors will host Southwest Oregon Saturday and Everett Sunday in non-league NWAACC doubleheaders.
