RICHLAND — Walla Walla Community College began its 2015 softball season with two wins and two losses Saturday and Sunday during the opening session of the NWAC preseason crossover tournament at Columbia Playfields.
The Warriors were shut out by Lower Columbia, 10-0, in their opener, doubled up Grays Harbor, 4-2, and got nipped by Pierce, 6-5.
On Sunday, they defeated Edmonds 17-3 in their lone game.
Anna Williams went 2-for-3 against Grays Harbor and Bri Christian added a double in the game.
Both Cheyenne Kessler and Baily Bennett went 3-for-4 against Pierce and Christian went 2-for-3 with a home run.
“We started out the day full of nerves, but made great strides of improvement as the day progressed,” first-year WWCC coach Shawna Juarez said. “(The Pierce game) was very exciting and competitive. We rallied and played great softball until the final inning.
“The bats came alive in a great manner as we tallied 13 solid hits,” Juarez added. “Cheyenne had a great day at the plate and hit the ball very productively.”
