Walla Walla Community College got a complete-game, four-hit pitching performance from Jamie Moe and home runs from Bri Christian and Baily Bennett in a 5-1 victory over Southwestern Oregon in the second game of an NWAC softball doubleheader at Warrior Field.
The Lakers took the first game, 17-3.
Christian’s long ball was a two-run shot that keyed a three-run, first-inning rally in the nightcap. Bennett’s blast was a solo four-bagger in the sixth.
Bennett and Anna Williams had two hits apiece for the Warriors.
The support was more than enough for Moe, who shut out SWOCC over the first six innings.
Bennett and Jaci McDaniels had two hits each for WWCC in game one. One of McDaniels’ hits was a two-run homer in the first inning.
“In our first game, we struggled from the first pitch with several aspects of the game, which resulted in a tough loss,” WWCC coach Shawna Juarez said. “But I am very impressed with how my athletes responded and came back strong with a vengeance, while supporting one another, executing game plans, and learning from the first game in order to finish the day on a high note beating a very successful team.
“I have high confidence in this team and know they will continue to compete strong daily.”
