Walla Walla Community College crushed Columbia Basin, 14-1, to complete a doubleheader sweep in Northwest Athletic Conference softball action here on Wednesday.

The Warriors had held off Columbia Basin for a 5-3 win in the first game of their East Division matchup.

The sweep gave Walla Walla (14-8 overall, 9-5 in the division) sole possession of third place in the East, as Treasure Valley settled for a split with Blue Mountain on Wednesday and slipped to fourth place.

McLoughlin High School alumnus Makayla Kelly joined Ashley Hicks in hitting home runs as they helped the Warriors to a lopsided victory in the nightcap.

Walla Walla scored six runs in the second inning, and added another in the third.

Columbia Basin managed to score its only run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Warriors answered with seven in the home half to put the game out of reach.

The nightcap ended in the middle of the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

Walla Walla High School graduate Brandi Schoessler pitched the first four innings for the Warriors, and limited Columbia Basin to one unearned run on two singles and three walks. She chalked up three strikeouts.

Columbia Basin had started the doubleheader here ahead 1-0 in the very first inning of the opener against Warriors starting pitcher Rachel Collins, but the Walla Walla bounced back with a four-run third as Mikayla Faulkner lit the fuse with a one-out double, and then scored to tie the game on an Anna Williams single.

Back-to-back singles and two Columbia Basin errors gave the Warriors two more runs, and then Kelly drove home another to make it a 4-1 game.

Columbia Basin came back to score twice in the top of the fourth inning, but Faulkner led off the home half with a homer for a little more cushion.

Columbia Basin threatened with a leadoff single in the top of the fifth inning, but after Collins recorded two outs, Schoessler relieved her for the rest of the game, as Walla Walla held on to the end.

The Warriors next play on Sunday, when Spokane visits Walla Walla.
