Warriors split on the weekend

WENATCHEE — Walla Walla Community College could not hold a two-run, seventh-inning lead here Saturday and dropped a 12-11 decision to NWAACC Eastern Region-leading Wenatchee Valley in the first game of a collegiate softball doubleheader at North Rotary Park.

The Knights, No. 4 in the latest NWAACC coaches poll, scored seven times in the second inning of game two and coasted to a 9-3 victory.

On Friday, the Warriors’ Jamie Moe pitched a four-hit shutout as WWCC took the opening game of a twin bill with Yakima Valley, 1-0.

YVC bounced back in the nightcap for a 7-5 triumph.

The teams also completed a game from March 28 in Walla Walla that was halted because of rain. The Warriors took that one, 14-4.

WWCC is now 11-11 in the East, good for fourth place, and 14-20 overall.

In Saturday’s first game, Walla Walla trailed 9-1 after four innings, but rallied for four runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth to take an 11-9 lead.

But WVC scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.

Kendyl Hamilton had three hits in the game for the Warriors.

WWCC dropped game two despite three hits, including a home run, from Cheyenne Kessler, who had two hits in Friday’s nightcap.
