Warriors split pair of softball doubleheaders

Walla Walla split a pair of Northwest Athletic Conference East Region softball doubleheaders over the weekend on the road.

The Warriors dropped the first end of a twin bill at Big Bend in Moses Lake Friday by a score of 3-0 but bounced back to win the nightcap 8-2.

In a Saturday pair at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, WWCC claimed the first game 6-3, but lost the second 9-7.

The splits left the Warriors with an 8-6 record in the East, 13-9 overall.

North Idaho now stands 6-3 and 12-5 while Big Bend, which also split a pair of home games Sunday against Columbia Basin, is 5-7 and 6-10.

In the Warriors’ victory over the Vikings on Friday, Anna Williams, Brandi Schoessler and Haily Danly slugged home runs and drove in all of WWCC’s runs. Williams and Schoessler finished with three RBIs each and Danly knocked in a pair.

Rachel Collins pitched both games against Big Bend. She allowed three runs in the first inning and whitewashed the Vikings over the next five frames in game one and was touched for two runs in the first inning of the nightcap and blanked Big Bend the rest of the way.

No further statistics for Saturday’s games were available.

The Warriors will host Columbia Basin Wednesday in an East Region twin bill beginning at 2 p.m.
