Warriors swept by Chukars in season finale

Treasure Valley held off a Walla Walla Community College rally to win the opener of their NWAC East twin bill on the Warriors’ field on Saturday, 10-8, and shutout WWCC 10-0 in the nightcap.

The Chukars held a 6-1 lead after two innings in the opener, tacked on two more in the third and solo runs in the fifth and sixth.

The Warriors rallied for five fifth-inning runs, and two in the bottom of the seven, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

In the nightcap, the Chukars opened up a 2-0 first inning lead, tacked on solo runs in the second and third innings, and ended the game early with three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Mackenzie Watts had four hits on the day to lead the Warriors — three in the opener and WWCC’s lone hit in the nightcap.

Baily Bennett, who started both games for WWCC in the circle, also had three hits in the opener, and she was joined by teammate Miranda Smith.

The losses end the WWCC season with an 11-17 league record, 17-29 overall.

“I am very proud of my girls for the amount of hard work, heart, drive and effort they’ve displayed this season,” Warriors coach Shawna Juarez said. “We will be working exceptionally hard this offseason and have made making an NWAC appearance next year something we will do.

“I am very proud of each individual I have coached this season, they made my first year at Walla Walla a year I will always value and carry close to my heart.”
