Southwest Oregon Community College got good pitching in the first game here Saturday in non-league women’s softball action.
The Lakers defeated Walla Walla Community College 6-2.
The Lakers pounded out 18 hits and survived a 6-run Warrior rally in the bottom of the seventh to post an extra inning 10-8 decision in game two action. The win gave the Lakers a sweep of the Warriors.
In the opener, the Lakers’ Marisa Peters limited the Warriors to only five hits, and Peters got all the runs she needed in a 3-run Lakers first. Alyssa Martinez blasted two home runs for the Lakers in the win.
Haily Danly had a home run for the Warriors but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors could only manage singletons in the first and fifth against Peters.
The Lakers took an 8-2 lead into the home seventh in the nightcap. The Warriors put together their best offensive inning of the day to score 6 runs and send the game to extra innings. Amanda Smith came on in relief of Warrior starter, and ex-Wa-Hi star, Brandi Schoessler in the seventh and blanked the Lakers until the top of the 10th. The Lakers pushed across two runs and Peters, on in relief for SWOCC, shut the door on the Warriors in the home 10th to complete the Laker sweep.
Ashton Buffo, Kylie Hill, Kira Haskell, and Taylor Harrison each had two hits for the Warriors in the losing effort.
The Warriors host North Idaho Friday at 2 p.m.
