WWCC Softball loses opener, rain washes out second game

Walla Walla Community College got one game of their scheduled NWAC softball double header in before the rains came and washed out the second game here Saturday in women’s softball action. In a see saw battle, Southwest Oregon Community College emerged with a 13-10 win.

The Warriors got off to a good start after SOCC plated a run in the top of the first. The Warriors answered with a three-spot in the home first. The Lakers responded with four in the third and tacked on three more in the top of the fifth.

The Warriors added one in the home fourth, but came to bat in the bottom of the fifth down 8-4. The Warriors rallied for six runs to grab a 10-8 lead.

Hannah Hirning came on in relief for the Lakers and ended the Warrior rally. Hirning and Sheran DeFreitas blanked the Warriors over the last two frames.

Down 10-8 going into their last at bat, the Lakers responded with five runs in the top of the seventh to grab a 13-10 lead. DeFreitas worked a scoreless seventh to give the Lakers the 13-10 win.

The Lakers blasted four home runs in grabbing the win.

The Warriors got a long ball from Mikayla Faulkner. Faulkner, Anna Williams, Lyndzie Parker, and Ashley Hicks each collected two hits, and Milton-Freewater grad, Shannon Carter, collected the other Warrior safety. Faulkner drove in three runs for the Warriors on the day.

The Warriors, 3-3 on the season, host Pierce at noon today for a double dip.
