Warrior Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Over Blue Mountain
Walla Walla, WA - After the weekend's trip to Tacoma was canceled due to forecasted weather in the area, the Walla Walla Community College Baseball team found themselves on the field on Sunday in a rescheduled doubleheader from Opening Weekend against Blue Mountain. The Warriors would make the most of their opportunity to be on the field, sweeping the doubleheader over BMCC and helping to give first year Head Coach, Colby Watilo, his first victory in black and gold.
Game 1: Walla Walla 9 vs. Blue Mountain 8
The day started out a little rocky for WWCC as in the top of the first inning, Blue Mountain was able to plate 5 runs to take the early 5-0. However, the Warriors were right back in it following 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by 3 hits including an RBI double by Luke Palmer. Walla Walla would get some help from some pitching and defensive mishaps by BMCC in the fourth inning to score 3 more runs and tie the score at 6-6 heading into the back half of the game. The contest would remain back and forth from there until the bottom of the ninth inning when freshman, Tyson Landoni, would record his first collegiate RBI with a game-winning walkoff single to get the Warriors in the win column in the 2026 season. Seven different Warriors would tally a hit in the game with Gavin Wideman's 3 for 4 effort leading the way, to go with 2 RBI's. On the pitching side, Owen Spendlove contributed 3 hitless innings on the mound in relief, striking out 2 Timberwolves while only allowing 1 run.
Game 2: Walla Walla 8 vs. Blue Mountain 3
In game two, the Warriors would score in 5 of their 8 offensive innings, including a 4-run 6th inning to blow the game open en route to an 8-3 victory in the second half of the doubleheader. RBI's from 7 different players in the Walla Walla lineup helped contribute to the offensive effort that saw the Warriors tally 7 hits, 8 walks, and 4 hit by pitches in the game. Andrew Nielsen, Walla Walla's Game 2 designated hitter, recorded 2 hits and a walk, and the pitching combination of Conner Marshall, Nakoa Moses-Gomera, and Ryan Hoerner went 9 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 walks, and 3 earned runs while striking out 10.
What's next?
The Warriors are back on the diamond next weekend, hosting Olympic College at home for doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
