Men's Basketball Sees Three Warriors Voted as League's Best
Luke Holecek Named East Region MVP, Coach Reinland tabbed as Coach of the Year
Walla Walla, WA. - With basketball teams across the NWAC wrapping up their regular season schedules, coaches spanning the league have been summoned to vote on who they saw as the league's best. The 2024-2025 NWAC Basketball All-Region selections were announced this week and the vote saw multiple Warriors being recognized for their efforts on the court.
Three Warrior sophomores were recognized by their peers, with Luke Holecek leading the way being named the NWAC East Region Most Valuable Player. Luke led the entire NWAC in scoring this season at 25.9 points per game on 60% shooting from the field and 40% from behind the arc. Luke also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Luke also acheived a career milestone few have in the Warrior uniform - amassing 1,000 career points under Coach Reinland over his two seasons in Walla Walla.
Trey Arland was voted onto the NWAC East Region 1st Team after also being a Top 5 scorer across the entire NWAC this season at 21.9 points per game. Trey was an absolute iron man for the Warriors in 2024-2025, after returning from injury in the 2023-2024 season, accumulating a total of 1,025 minutes played on the season. Trey did a little bit of everything for the Warriors over the year - finishing the season also grabbing 5.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. Trey shot 49.8% from the field and 39.4% from three point land while taking the 8th most total shots in the NWAC.
The Warriors' final recipient of All Region honors was sophomore guard, Trayce Atkins, who was voted to the NWAC All Defensive Team. Atkins played a pivotal role for the Warriors in the 2024-2025 season, totaling 22 steals and an assist to turnover rate of 3/1 while logging almost 800 minutes for the Warriors.
Last but not least, the leader of the Walla Walla Community College Athletic Department and Men's Basketball program, Jeff Reinland, was recognized as the NWAC East Region Coach of the Year. Coach Reinland led the warriors to a 23-5 overall season, while going 12-2 in East Region play. The Warriors led the entire NWAC in several categories, including total points, points per game, assists per game, 3-point shots made per game, and 3-point shot percentage.
The Warriors start NWAC Championship Tournament play on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 in Pasco, WA against Southwest Oregon Community College.
