Warriors Edge Roadrunners in Monday Night Men's Hoops Action
Walla Walla, WA - Following a busy Warrior Classic basketball weekend, the Walla Walla Community College Men's Hoops team had one more opportunity to get back to their winning ways prior to the upcoming Thanksgiving break. They took advantage of that opportunity, narrowly defeating a tough Linn-Benton team at home on Monday night with a score of 102-99. With the win, WWCC heads into the 10-day Thanksgiving break sitting at 3-2 overall early in the 2025-26 season.
If you are a fan of offense in basketball, this matchup was your dream as both Walla Walla and Linn-Benton finished shooting over 50% from the field. Walla Walla had the slight advantage, making 54.2% of their shots and they also bested Linn-Benton in 3-point shooting, knocking down 13/29 attempts for a 44.8% shooting percentage from deep. Ultimately, in a game that finished 102-99, free throw shooting was a difference maker and the Roadrunners finished 18/28 (64.3%) from the line, again behind the mark set by the Warriors who went 11/16 (68.8%).
Bennett Pegues had a monster night and led all scorers in the game with 29 points. Pegues was 10/14 from the field and 5/7 from behind the 3-point stripe. Four other Warriors would finish in double figures in the matchup: Braden Sherrill (19), Tanner Goldsmith (15), Trebor Edwards (13), and Jake Curtis (13). Goldsmith would lead the charge for WWCC cleaning up on the glass, finishing with 9 rebounds, one shy of earning the double double.
What's next?
The Warriors will be back in action on December 5th and 6th at the Bellevue Classic. They will begin the weekend on Friday with a rematch against Bellevue, before facing off against Skagit Valley on Saturday.
