Warriors Men's Hoops Ready for Matchup with CBC Following Win Over Wenatchee Valley
Wenatchee, WA - Last Saturday, the Walla Walla Community College Men's Basketball team was able to overcome a 3-point halftime deficit to claim victory over Wenatchee Valley in a low scoring affair, 68-61. The win gets the Warriors back on track, now sitting at 10-9 overall and 2-2 in East Region play, headed into a big matchup tonight against their rivals, Columbia Basin College.
The game started slow on the offensive end for WWCC, as the team would finish the first half 9/30 (30%) from the field, including 3/17 from 3-point territory. Drew Hottinger would lead the way, contributing 8 of Walla Walla's 24 first half points in the contest. While the scoring was low, the Warrior defense did a great job limiting Wenatchee Valley opportunities and keeping them well within reach as play turned to the second period. The back half of the game was a night and day difference for the Warriors who shot 46.7% from the field in the final 20 minutes, including making 7 of 15 attempted 3-pointers. The result of the effort was a box score where Walla Walla out-shot Wenatchee Valley from the field, from 3-point range, and from the free throw line en route to a 7-point victory.
Drew Hottinger kept things rolling from his strong start, finishing the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds, playing all 40 minutes. However, it was Josh Byers who provided a much-needed spark off the bench for WWCC, leading all scorers with 21 points on 6/12 shooting, with all 6 made shots from the field being 3-pointers. Byers would also add 3 rebounds and 1 assist to his stats for the night.
