Warrior Men Fall Victim to CBC Comeback on Wednesday Night
Walla Walla, WA - A strong second half comeback by the Hawks of CBC turned what originally looked like a great win for the Warriors into a narrow 4-point loss, 71-67. With that result, both Walla Walla and Columbia Basin find themselves in a wild, 4-way tie for the fourth spot in the NWAC East standings with a record of 2-3. Overall, the Warriors now sit at 10-10 on the 2025-26 seasons.
Walla Walla opened the contest on an 8-0 run after Braden Sherrill connected on back-to-back 3-pointers on the first two offensive possessions of the game. Sherrill would find the net one more time from deep in the first half, finishing the frame with 9 points, tied with teammate, Drew Hottinger, who also scored 9 points in the first half, to set the scoring pace for Walla Walla early. As a team, the Warriors would finish the period 14/29 (48.3%) from the field and hold CBC to just 11/28 shooting to claim a 36-28 advantage at the halftime break. In the second half, a 50% shooting effort from the field and 15 second half points from Trebor Edwards helped WWCC extend their lead to 18 points with 13 minutes left to play. However, Levi Pepper and the rest of the Columbia Basin Hawks weren't done, clawing back and eventually taking over the lead with 2 minutes remaining on the clock. As time was winding down, a couple of turnovers and missed shots contributed to WWCC going scoreless for the final 4 minutes of action with the game ending 71-67 in favor of CBC.
For Walla Walla, Trebor Edwards was the leading scorer, finishing with 23 points on 6/8 shooting, including 4 3-pointers, to go with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Drew Hottinger and Braden Sherrill followed closely behind with 15 and 14 points respectively. Hottinger also tallied 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals, while Sherrill added 5 rebounds and 1 block. Off the bench, Jake Curtis was the final Warrior in double figures, totalling 11 points on 5/7 shooting from the field.
