WWCC Men's Basketball Completes OT Comeback to Defeat CBC in Final Game
Pasco, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Men's Basketball team wrapped up the 2025-26 season in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, completing a comeback that saw them behind by as many as 16 points to defeat Columbia Basin College in overtime, 100-97. CBC opened the game on an 18-2 run, giving WWCC a sizeable hole to try to dig out of. However, slowly but surely, the Warriors did exactly that, cutting into the deficit that by halftime, had the Hawks only ahead by 4 points. In the second half, the Warriors shot 51.9% from the field and were 16/18 from the free throw line to continue the incredible effort and stay within striking distance of CBC. With 11 seconds left in the game, Jackson Floyd would drive to the hoop to lay the ball in, tying the score between CBC and WWCC for the first time all game. The Warriors used a strong shooting performance in overtime to cap things off and end the season on a high note as they would shoot a combined 50% from the field, knock down 2/3 attempted 3-pointers, and make 9/12 attempted free throws on the way to a 19-point overtime period and 100-97 victory.
Leading all scorers for the Warriors was Jake Curtis with 29 points, 19 of those points coming in the big second half for Walla Walla. Curtis finishes the season as the Warriors' leader in points per game with 12.7 while averaging 18.7 minutes per game, all off the bench. Four other Warriors finished the game in double figures: Trebor Edwards (17), Jackson Floyd (17), Josh Byers (14), and Tanner Goldsmith (11). Goldsmith set the pace on the glass for the Warriors in the game with 7, and also led the team in rebounding over the course of the year, averaging 9.8 rebounds per game to go with 12.5 points per game. In the matchup with CBC, Walla Walla out-rebounded the Hawks 43-36 and scored 22 second chance points.
With Wednesday night's win, Walla Walla finishes the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 13-16, and an NWAC East record of 5-9. Treasure Valley claimed the NWAC East Regular Season Championship, finishing the conference season with a record of 13-1. Blue Mountain (11-3), Columbia Basin (7-7), and Yakima Valley (7-7) will be the other three teams joining the Chukars from the East Region in the 2026 NWAC Men's Basketball Tournament which begins next Wednesday in Pasco, WA.
