Lowry Clean Sheet, Castellon Goal Lead Warriors to Win
Walla Walla, WA - A gritty performance by the Warrior Men's Soccer team resulted in a 1-0 win on Saturday over Wenatchee Valley on the campus of Walla Walla Community College. The victory was a much needed rebound for WWCC after dropping their NWAC East opener to Columbia Basin the weekend before. Although still early in the in-region season, three points is pivotal for the Warriors as they press on into week two of NWAC East play.
Right from the start it looked like Walla Walla was going to jump out to a lead in the match as the Warriors put a ball in the back of the net within the first minute of action, but the goal would get called back offsides to delay the start to the scoring. For the rest of the first half, both teams would find themselves evenly matched, Wenatchee Valley registering nine shots countered by Walla Walla's six. But, neither team could capitalize on their opportunities and the score remained tied 0-0 at the break.
In the second half, again it was the Warriors who were putting pressure on Wenatchee Valley appearing to break open the scoring with another goal but this one too was called back offsides. Finally, in the 77th minute of play, Alvaro Castellon was able to put one away off of an assist from Adrian Arangure to give Walla Walla the 1-0 lead. For Castellon, the Warriors' leading goal scorer, it was his fifth goal on the season and eleventh total point. Arangure's assist gives him two total assists on the year, tying him at the top of that category for the Warriors with teammate Danny Gonzalez. Aaron Lowry played a pivotal role in the 1-0 victory for the Warriors recording saves on all six shots on goal that he was challenged with.
