Warrior Men's Soccer Picks Up Four Crucial Points in Past Week
Walla Walla, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Men's Soccer team has been rolling in the past week as they were able to earn four points with a tie against Spokane last Saturday, and a win at home on Wednesday in their match against Blue Mountain. The Warriors have now earned at least one point in each of their last four matches, with their last loss coming on September 13 in the NWAC East opener against Columbia Basin. After five matches played, WWCC currently sits in 3rd place in NWAC East standings and holds a 5-4-1 overall record on the year.
Walla Walla 0 vs. Spokane 0 (September 27)
Spokane was able to apply the majority of the pressure, but the Walla Walla defense held strong to earn a 0-0 tie in the matchup in Spokane. Walla Walla was only able to produce 1 shot on goal, countered by Spokane's 5, but neither team walked away with anything to show for it. Aaron Lowry locked things down in goal making saves on all 5 of the Spokane shots he saw. Joel Rogers, the sophomore forward for the Warriors, registered WWCC's lone shot in the match.
Walla Walla 3 vs. Blue Mountain 0 (October 1)
Where Walla Walla may have lacked in getting shots on net against Spokane, they made up for in Wednesday's match against Blue Mountain where as a team they took 16 combined shots, 9 of them on goal to challenge the BMCC keeper. The scoring began in the 20th minute when Trevon Aytch took a pass from Marc Gutierrez and buried the shot in the net to give Walla Walla an early 1-0 lead. For Aytch, it was his first goal and points in a Walla Walla uniform! The score would hold until just short of halftime when in the 43rd minute Adrian Arangure doubled the Warrior lead off of an assist from Edwin Maciel. The last Warrior goal would be scored almost immediately out of the halftime break as in the 46th minute Gabriel Mendoza-Rojas was able to break free and put Walla Walla up 3-0 with an unassisted effort. Again, the Warriors' defense was stout, only allowing 4 second half shots to BMCC, and Aaron Lowry would pick up another clean sheet when the final whistle blew.
What's next?
The Warrior Men's Soccer team will get a bit of a break with a bye on the schedule this weekend before the page turns to the second half of NWAC East play. Only one home game remains on the schedule for Walla Walla, so they will have plenty of opportunity to be tested on the road as they look to make a run to postseason play. Their next match will take place on Saturday, October 11 as they will travel to Pasco with revenge on their mind to take on Columbia Basin.
