Warrior Women's Basketball Begin Title Defense Tonight in Pasco
Walla Walla, WA - The last time that the Walla Walla Community College Women's Basketball team was on the floor for a game at Columbia Basin, they were cutting down the nets after defeating Lane Community College to claim the 2025 NWAC Women's Basketball Title. Tonight, back in the familiar confines, they will kick off their title defense at the Columbia Basin College Opener against Linn-Benton. Head Coach, Bobbi Hazeltine, knows how big a task it is to repeat the success they had last year, especially with nine freshmen on the roster, but she feels that her team is prepared and is excited to officially get things started up.
Despite having nine freshmen listed on the 2025-26 roster, the Warriors return a solid squad of sophomores that played significant roles in the title run last year. Of the top six minute-contributors from last year's team, four of them are back for their second year of action at WWCC: Hadley Fraas, Sidnee Geerdes, Averee Osterhout, and Macie Milum. Those four will look to anchor a rotation of players that will be attempting to make up for the production lost in the graduation of Brielle Magnuson and Sintia Varela, who finished first and second in minutes last year, respectively.
Hadley Fraas, the sophomore from Cole Valley Christian HS in Idaho, is the most prominent returner on the 2025-26 roster. She finished last season as the second leading scorer for the Warriors, averaging 10.6 points per game. She also averaged 5.5 rebounds per game, seeing action in thirty-one contests with starts in thirty of them. However, she is by no means alone as Sidnee Geerdes and Averee Osterhout both saw action in every game that the Warriors played in the 2024-25 season, along with Macie Milum who played in thirty-one games and made nine starts. Geerdes led the Warriors last year in field goal percentage at 53.1%, Osterhout finished third on the team in assists, and Milum contributed 5.1 points and three rebounds per game in the opportunity that she saw.
The 2025-26 campaign begins this afternoon when the Warriors travel to CBC to take on Linn-Benton Community College at 1:00 PM. They will turn around and match up against Peninsula tomorrow with tip-off of that game set for 12:00 PM also at CBC. Next weekend, WWCC will play their first home games of the year as Walla Walla and the Dietrich Dome are set to host the Warrior Classic for both the men's and women's teams. Walla Walla is set to face the Gonzaga University Club team on Friday and Green River College on Saturday.
