Warrior Women's Hoops Grinds Out Win in East Region Opener
Walla Walla, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Women's Basketball team opened up NWAC East play on Wednesday night, playing host to the Sasquatch of Spokane. The Warriors were able to run away with a 53-34 win in what was ultimately a sluggish night for the offenses of both squads. With the victory, WWCC moves to 14-2 overall and 1-0 in region play in the 2025-2026 season.
A strong defensive effort by the Warriors made up for the slow shooting performance as WWCC held Spokane to just 22.4% shooting from the field, including 18.8% from 3-point range and 41.7% from the foul line. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Sasquatch scored 10 or more points in a single quarter. Walla Walla was able to out-rebound Spokane 49-24 and they also forced 15 turnovers. However, the Warriors will also be looking to clean things up on the offensive end in their next game as they finished the night with a 34.6% shooting percentage from the field, going 1/11 from behind the 3-point arc and making 16/25 attempted free throws.
Sidnee Geerdes, the sophomore forward from Bonneville HS in Utah, led all scorers in the game with 11 points on 3/8 shooting from the field. She also added 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals to her stat line. The only other Warrior in double figures for the game was Averee Osterhout who finished with 10 points and played every minute of the contest for WWCC. Allie McKenna would wind up leading Walla Walla in rebounding, finishing with 11 to go with 6 points.
What's next?
The Warriors will make the short trip to Pendleton, OR on Saturday to face Blue Mountain Community College. The game is set to tip off at 4 PM.
