Warrior Women's Basketball Stunned by Treasure Valley, Despite Fraas' Career Night
Walla Walla, WA - For Hadley Fraas, last night's contest against Treasure Valley was one to remember! The sophomore out of Cole Valley Christian High School finished the game with a career-high 31 points, to go along with 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block. However, for the rest of the Walla Walla Community College Women's Basketball team, they will be looking to move on as quickly as possible from what was ultimately a 63-61 loss at the hands of TVCC. With the defeat, the Warriors now stand at 15-3 overall and in a tie for 2nd in the NWAC East with a record of 2-1.
The game was close the entire way through with 6 ties and 2 lead changes between the two teams. Walla Walla held a narrow scoring advantage through the first half and most of the third quarter, but a late 3rd quarter Chukars run evened the score at 45 headed into the last period of play. In the 4th quarter, some big time shots by Treasure Valley allowed them to pull slightly ahead, but the margin never got bigger than 6 points as the Warriors continued to claw back and keep the game in reach. With the score tied at 61 and 3 seconds left on the clock, Ava Cuff of TVCC was fouled attempting a game-winning 3-pointer that would put her at the foul line. She would go on to make 2/3 to give TVCC a 63-61 lead, which would hold up until the end of the game as on WWCC's last possession of the night, Hadley Fraas was fouled but couldn't quite get her potentially-tying shots to fall. As a team, the Warriors shot 34.8% from the field, including 6/20 (30%) from 3-point range. They also out-rebounded the Chukars 37-33, and held the advantage in most every team statistical category in the game.
Along with Fraas, Logan Sailors was the only other Warrior in double figures as she finished the night with 12 points on 5/16 shooting. Addy Laible made her presence felt down low throughout the matchup, finishing with 8 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots.
What's next?
The Warriors will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they travel to Wenatchee to take on Wenatchee Valley. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
