Warriors Women's Hoops Cruises in Win Over Columbia Basin
Walla Walla, WA - A couple of timely runs by CBC kept things interesting, but the Walla Walla Community College Women's Basketball team held the momentum for the majority of last night's game on their way to a 75-62 victory. With the win, the Warriors find themselves back at the top of the standings in the NWAC East, tied for first with Big Bend. Columbia Basin, who entered the game picked #7 in the latest NWAC Coaches Poll, dropped to a tie for third in the region.
Both teams got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor, both finishing the quarter with shooting percentages above 50% from the field. Walla Walla would lead 22-17 at the end of the period, largely due to a blistering 69.2% field goal percentage and 8 points in the opening frame from Logan Sailors. In the second quarter, CBC kept their pace while WWCC slowed down slightly, resulting in a narrow 36-34 halftime lead for the Warriors. Walla Walla would get back to their scoring ways in the final two quarters of play, paired with some strong defensive adjustments from Coach Hazeltine's squad, and the game would end with the Warriors holding a comfortable 13-point lead, their largest lead of the game. Overall, WWCC would finish 27/60 (45%) from the field and 13/16 (81.3%) from the foul line. They would also out-rebound the Hawks 31-19 and force 11 turnovers that resulted in 10 points.
Logan Sailors picked right back up where she left off on Saturday against Wenatchee Valley, again scoring 28 points in the game to lead all scorers. She shot 50% from the field, including knocking down 4 3-pointers, and added 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists to her efforts. Four other Warriors finished the game in double figures: Hadley Fraas (14), Averee Osterhout (10), Addy Laible (10), and Ella Johnson (10). Fraas would set the pace on the glass with 8 rebounds, while Osterhout was the primary facilitator of the offense, totalling 4 assists.
