Sailors and Warriors Clinch Spot in NWAC Tournament with Win Over Yakima Valley
Yakima, WA - Logan Sailors, the Warriors' leading scorer, put together her best effort of the season on Saturday evening in Walla Walla's 88-64 victory over the Yaks of Yakima Valley. Sailors finished the contest with 35 points on 13/24 shooting, including 3/7 from 3-point range. She also led the Warriors in rebounds with 9 and totalled 2 steals and 1 assist to round out her stat line. The freshman from Rocky Mountain High School in Idaho is now averaging 16.3 points per game in 26 games played. Not only did Sailors' scoring give Warrior fans something to cheer about, but with the win, Walla Walla Community College has officially clinched their spot in the 2026 NWAC Women's Basketball Tournament! WWCC now holds a 22-4 overall record and sits in second place in the NWAC East with a record of 9-2.
The Warriors took the lead over the Yaks with 7 minutes left in the first quarter and never gave the advantage up, leading the rest of the way en route to an 88-64 win. WWCC finished the game shooting 51.5% from the field while limiting YVC to just 32.8% shooting. Defensively, Walla Walla also forced 18 turnovers that resulted in 23 points in a game where the Warrior lead got as big as 29 points.
Of the Warriors' 88 points, 77 of them were scored by members of their starting lineup. Along with Sailors' 35 points, three other Warrior starters were in double figures: Addy Laible (13), Allie McKenna (12), and Averee Osterhout (10). Osterhout and Hadley Fraas helped to generate the offense, tying for the Warriors lead in assists with 2 a piece.
What's next?
Walla Walla will be back in action on Wednesday (February 18) when they travel to Treasure Valley to take on the Chukars. Sophomore Night, and the game that could ultimately decide the NWAC East Regular Season Championship, will be played on Saturday (February 21) when Big Bend comes to the Dietrich Activity Center to face the Warriors.
