Warriors Women's Soccer Continues Building Momentum
Walla Walla, WA - The Walla Walla Community College Women's Soccer team kept up the pace to the start of their 2025 season last week as they traveled west to take on Skagit Valley College and Whatcom Community College. The trip saw the Warriors earn a hard fought 1-0 victory over Skagit Valley on Wednesday before coming away with a 1-1 tie against Whatcom on Thursday. The Warriors, now with three wins and three ties to their record, are making final preparations before opening up East Region play this weekend!
Walla Walla 1 vs. Skagit Valley 0 (Wednesday, September 3)
After a scoreless first half, the lone goal of the match came in the 59th minute when Karen Villegas was able to find the net off of a pass from Jaden Ryan. For Villegas, this was her third goal on the season putting her in the team lead in the 2025 campaign. The sophomore has been highly involved in the offensive attack so far this year, recording seven total points in the first six games of the season. In goal, it was Kenzie Christian who tallied four saves and preserved the clean sheet to help give the Warriors the win.
Walla Walla 1 vs. Whatcom 1 (Thursday, September 4)
The Warriors and Orcas played a tightly contested match on the back half of the trip, with neither team able to gain any separation leading to a tie. In the 42nd minute of the first half Natalia Yanetsko was able to kick off the scoring with a goal for Walla Walla, her second on the season. However, Whatcom answered right back in the 45th minute with a goal of their own to even the score at 1-1 right before halftime. Whatcom applied a lot of pressure to the Warriors defense in the second half, attacking with eight total shots, but keeper Kenzie Christian was solid in goal for the second straight day recording seven saves in the second half to keep things tied.
What's next?
The Walla Walla Women's Soccer team has one more tune-up match this week before opening NWAC East play on Saturday. Wednesday night the Warriors will make the trip across town to James Hayner Field to take on Whitman College (NCAA Div. III) with kickoff set for 7:00 PM. Then, on Saturday NWAC East play begins as the Warriors will play host to Columbia Basin College with kickoff of the women's game scheduled for 2:15 PM.
