Warrior Women's Soccer Wins Big Over Treasure Valley
Walla Walla, WA - It took a little longer than anticipated to get going, but once the Walla Walla Women's Soccer team found their stride, they didn't look back en route to a 3-0 win over Treasure Valley in their match Wednesday evening. The Warriors, now 6-1-3 overall and 3-1 in NWAC East play, saw all three of their goals come in the second half to overpower the Chukars and secure their third win in a row, including the forfeit victory last Saturday over Wenatchee Valley.
In the first half, the Warriors had a fair number of scoring opportunities, totaling eight attempted shots in the period but couldn't quite put one away. On the defensive end, they were solid, limiting Treasure Valley to only one attempted shot in the first half and two total shots for the entirety of the match. As a result, the teams went into halftime with the score still knotted up where it was when the match began.
The second half was an entirely different story with 15 total shots taken by Walla Walla resulting in three goals and a commanding 3-0 victory! The first goal came in an electric moment of the match as in the 67th minute, Bailey Bloxham would send a high-arcing shot into the box, sailing over the goalkeeper for her first career goal and giving the Warriors the second half lead. Less than ten minutes later in the 76th minute, Isabelle Marshall would provide some insurance for WWCC putting the ball in the back of the net and increasing the lead to 2-0. On both Bloxham and Marshall's goals, it was Tessa Halfmoon providing the assists to set her teammates up with scoring chances. Right as the Walla Walla crowd was starting to anticipate a ref's whistle ending the match, Soleil Hoefer was able to break free in stoppage time and score one more goal coming off of an assist by Karen Villegas. In goal for the Warriors, Emi Pruneda was only challenged with one shot on goal in the match, but made the save and earned the clean sheet.
What's next?
The Warrior Women's Soccer team will head north on Saturday (September 27) for a matchup against Spokane. The match is set to get started at 2:00 PM.
