Warrior Volleyball Earns Hard-Fought Win Over Columbia Basin
Walla Walla, WA - The pattern of straight sets victories for the Warrior Volleyball team continued last Friday night as Walla Walla was able to take the victory over the visiting Hawks of Columbia Basin College. WWCC, now 12-8 overall on the season, completed the regular season sweep of the defending East Region champions, winning all six of the sets played between the two teams so far this year. With the victory, the Warriors remain tied with Spokane for the 3rd place spot in the NWAC East standings, looking to make up ground on both Yakima Valley and Treasure Valley.
Although it was a straight sets win in the end, the Warriors were challenged by the Hawks throughout the night with scores in all three sets remaining close. Walla Walla started the match off on the right foot with a 25-20 win, before winning sets two and three by scores of 25-21 and 25-20 respectively. Aubree Zimmer had a monster night at the net for WWCC, finishing with a season-high 18 kills in the match. She also contributed a couple of service aces and the Warriors' lone solo block of the night to round out the complete performance. Hailey Buehner, Natalie Evers, and Bethany Phillips were also mainstays in the Walla Walla attack. Both Buehner and Evers finished with 7 total kills and Phillips would add 6 of her own. The strong Warriors offensive attack wouldn't have been possible without the effort of Lauryn York who tied her season high in assists (set last game against Spokane) with 38. Defensively, Hailey Buehner, Kennedy Coleman, and Aliyah Meyer would lock things down as all three Warriors finished in double figures in digs.
What's next?
A big week of volleyball awaits Walla Walla as their matches this week pit them against both of the teams they are chasing in the NWAC East standings. On Wednesday, the Warriors host Treasure Valley who come in riding an 11-game winning streak before heading to Yakima on Friday to take on Yakima Valley. Both of those matches will get started at 6:00 PM.
