Thrilling 5-Set Victory Propels WWCC Volleyball into NWAC Postseason
Spokane, WA - The NWAC regular season wrapped up last Friday and the Walla Walla Community College Women's Volleyball team ended things with a bang! On the road against Spokane, in a battle for 3rd and 4th place in the NWAC East, the Warriors downed the Sasquatch in five sets to claim a 3rd place finish in the regular season. With the victory, the Warriors finished with a regular season record of 16-10 overall and 9-5 in the NWAC East, hoping to continue to build on that record as they begin the 2025 NWAC Volleyball Championships.
After dropping the first set of Friday's match, Walla Walla stormed back to take the next two sets 25-20, only needing one more win to claim the victory. Spokane would outlast Walla Walla in set number four, winning 26-24, before being bested by WWCC in the fifth and final set, 15-13. As a team, Walla Walla finished with 61 total kills on 165 attack attempts, 70 total defensive digs, 2 solo blocks, and 4 block assists. On the attack, four Warriors finished in double digits for kills: Aubree Zimmer (17), Kaidyn Maioho (15), Natalie Evers (14), and Hailey Buehner (10). A big reason for WWCC's success at the net was the effort put forth from Lauryn York in assists. The sophomore, in her final regular season match at WWCC, totaled 51 assists in the 5-set contest. Kennedy Coleman anchored the back line of the Walla Walla defense with 25 digs, and both Kaidyn Maioho and Hailey Buehner would add a solo block to their stat sheet.
With the regular season now behind them, the Warriors Volleyball team sets their sights on a deep run in the NWAC Championships. Having finished as the #3 seed in the NWAC East, Walla Walla will head west to Edmonds College in Lynwood, WA where two wins will punch their ticket to the final weekend of the year hosted in Pasco, WA at Columbia Basin College. In the first round of action, the Warriors take on Lower Columbia, who finished 14-9 in the regular season and claimed the #2 seed from the NWAC West. On the other side of the regional bracket is Lane Community College (#4 seed from the NWAC South) taking on the host, Edmonds College (#1 seed from the NWAC North). All matches in the 2025 NWAC Volleyball Championships can be livestreamed via the NWAC Sports Network.
