Schwager earns Setter of the Week honors; Walla Walla wins

ONTARIO, Ore. — Abbey Schwager dished 34 assists for Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team as the Warriors picked up their third straight match victory, and fifth of sixth, with a sweep of Treasure Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference action here on Wednesday.

Schwager helped the fourth-place Warriors (20-13 overall, 5-3 in the region) to a 25-22, 25-15 and 25-13 victories here, shortly after the conference named her Setter of the Week. The Boise native totaled 78 assists last week in sweeps of Blue Mountain and Yakima Valley.

“She’s done a really great job for us,” Warriors coach Chelsie Speer said. “She’s a great teammate and work hard to be better everyday.”

At Treasure Valley, Ashlin Orosco led Walla Walla with 11 kills while teammate Lindsey Carpenter had 10 kills and 10 digs.

Hannah Pond hustled after another 18 digs.

“This was a great team win on the road,” Speer said.

The Warriors will go to second-place Columbia Basin (9-1 in the region) for their next match on Friday. The Hawks defeated Yakima, 3-1, on Wednesday.
