Volleyball goes 3-4 to start the season

EUGENE, Ore. — Walla Walla Community College got off to a hot start Friday but hit the skids Saturday, before rebounding on Sunday, in Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action here.

Friday the Warriors punched out Lane Community College 3-0. The Warriors came out rocking and socking for a straight sets 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 victory.

At the Fall Festival Saturday, the Warriors lost their momentum. After battling Linn-Benton to the end in a hotly contested first set 25-23, the Warriors were ousted 25-17 in the second to lose the match.

Playing Highline next, the Warriors won the first set 25-21. Highline, though, roared back to win the second set 25-13 and the tiebreaker 15-11.

WWCC then battled North Idaho. Once again the Warriors came out strong, winning the first set 25-14. North Idaho, though, stormed back to win the second set 25-18 and then claimed the tiebreaker 15-12.

The Warriors finished the day with a hard-fought game against Chemeketa. WWCC dropped a heartbreaking 25-22 first set and fell in the second 25-18.

On Sunday, Walla Walla won back-to-back matches against Shoreline and Tacoma. They defeated Shoreline by identical 25-18 scores and then held off Tacoma 25-23, 25-20, 25-27, 25-23.
