Volleyball opens East play with sweep

Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team opened NWAC East Region play with a three-set victory over visiting North Idaho on Saturday, 25-22, 25-23, 25-12.

“I am very proud of the way the girls showed up and played for their first East Region match,” Warriors coach Chelsie Speer said. “This group has a great deal of potential and I’m excited to see what they will continue to do.”

WWCC sophomore middle Samantha Grove had 13 kills and hit .375. She also had three blocks in the match.

Savannah Ruark, the Warriors’ other sophomore middle, had eight kills and hit .350.

Freshmen rightside Cheyan James had six kills and four blocks, and sophomore setters Alexis Garrison and Dani Burke had 17 and 14 assists respectively.

The Warriors next host Big Bend at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
