SPOKANE — Walla Walla Community College battled to third place here in Spokane Falls Invitational Volleyball tournament action Friday and Saturday.
The Warriors swept through Friday pool play unblemished with three victories. The Warriors downed Grays Harbor 25-18, 25-15. WWCC went three sets to defeat Highline, 25-18, 22-25, and in the tie breaker, the Warriors pulled out a 18-16 win to claim the match. In the last battle of Friday pool play, the Warriors posted close victories over Bellevue, 27-25, and 25-23. The three wins earned the Warriors a trip to Saturday’s winners bracket.
The Warriors opened Saturday with a 25-21, 25-15, and 25-18 victory over Olympic. Linn-Benton, the eventual winner of the tournament, sent the Warriors to the consolation round with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 victory over WWCC.
The Warriors bounced back to defeat Yakima in three, 25-13, 23-25, and 15-13. In the battle for third, the Warriors closed out Bellevue for the second time in the tournament, 25-22, and 25-20.
Warrior sophomore Libero, Hannah Pond, made the all tournament team. Pond had 105 digs on the weekend.
Sophomore outside hitter, Lindsey Carpenter, had a great all around tournament as she blasted 53 kills, posted 12 blocks at the net, and came up with 65 digs on defense. Warrior freshmen setter, Abbey Schwager, directed the Warrior offense to third place with 153 assists.
The Warriors travel to Everett Saturday for the Everett tournament.
