Warriors place 4th at Spokane Tourney

SPOKANE — Walla Walla Community College took home fourth place here at the Spokane Volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday. The Warriors finished with a 4-1 record.

 

The Warriors opened tourney play Friday with three matches and went 2-1 on the day. The Warriors took Yakima Valley down in three straight, 25-16, 25-12, and 25-8 in Friday’s opener. They took four sets to knock off Grays Harbor, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15, and 25-17.

 

In the last match of Friday, Edmonds handed WWCC its only loss of the tournament. Edmonds won 3-1 in four sets with the Warriors only win coming in the third set as they downed Edmonds 25-19.

 

The Warriors were undefeated in their two Saturday matches. They beat Linn-Benton 3-1, 25-14, 25-11, 23-25, and 25-22. In their tournament final, the Warriors defeated Olympic in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19.

 

Morgan Ness pounded 75 kills in the two day tourney to lead the Warrior hitters. Ocean Bryan added 50 kills,Emmah Peterson knocked down 28 kills and Alissa Hendrickson chipped in 19 kills.

 

Abbey Schwager ran the Warrior offense and passed out 151 assists on the tourney.

 

Kacey Halbert led the Warrior defense with 66 digs. The defense was supported by Tia Takasaki’s 45 digs, and Schwager’s 44 digs. At the net, Peterson put up 27 blocks, Ness added 12, Hendrickson and Bryan each added 11 blocks to the Warrior net defense.

 

“It was a great tournament,” Warrior coach Chelsie Speer said. “We competed hard and had a lot of growth. I’m proud of this team for what they have accomplished thus far.”

 

The Warriors imoprove to 14-2 overall, 1-0 in the East and travel to North Idaho Tuesday for an East Region Battle with the Cardinals.
