LONGVIEW — Northwest Athletic Conference Eastern Region-leading Walla Walla Community College swept a trio of best-of-3 volleyball matches Friday at the Lower Columbia College crossover tournament.
The Warriors beat the host Red Devils, 25-16, 25-19, Clackamas, 25-23, 25-14, and Everett, 25-19, 25-8.
Sam Grove had nine kills, and posted a .444 hitting percentage and two blocks against Lower Columbia. Lindsey Carpenter had six kills and hit at a .750 clip, and Alexis Garrison and Dani Burke set 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
Carpenter had eight kills and hit .429 versus Clackamas. Burke had nine assists and Garrison had eight while Hannah Pond upped nine digs.
Carpenter and Savannah Ruark had five kills apiece in the win over Everett. Cheyan James contributed three blocks.
Burke and Garrison had six assists each in the latter contest. Tori Wegdahl had 14 digs and Carpenter followed with 13.
“It was great getting three wins on the road, especially that first one against Lower Columbia,” WWCC coach Chelsie Speer said. “They are a very good team and are doing well in the West Region.
The prospect of worsening travel conditions due to inclement weather forced cancellation of Saturday’s slate of matches.
WWCC resumes NWAC Eastern Region play Wednesday at Columbia Basin.
“We are down to the final half of region play and (we’ll be looking) to continue our success,” Speer said.
