EUGENE — Walla Walla Community College’s hot start to the 2018 volleyball season continued here Sunday at Lane CC as the Warriors notched two more two-set victories at the Northwest Athletic Conference’s Fall Showcase.
After sweeping four matches to begin the season on Saturday, the Walla Wallans registered a 25-17, 25-14 victory over Whatcom and a 25-12, 25-12 triumph over Centralia.
The Warriors tipped off the season Saturday by dispatching Shoreline 25-22, 25-16. They followed up with a 25-17, 25-19 win over Clark, knocked off East Region rival Columbia Basin 25-18, 25-20 and finished the day with a 25-14, 25-14 victory over Mount Hood.
“I am proud of these girls for starting off with such composure this season,” WWCC coach Chelsie Speer said. “We look to build off of what we were able to accomplish here this weekend.”
Abbey Schwager had 35 assists and 12 digs during Sunday’s two victories. Morgan Ness registered 20 kills and put up four blocks. And Kacey Halbert led with 19 digs.
During Saturday’s matches, Schwager totaled 75 assists and 20 digs while Morgan Ness led the way with 32 kills.
Tylar Jones scored 19 kills and put up five blocks and Tia Takasaki and Halbert finished with 36 and 34 digs, respectively.
The Warriors continue a busy road schedule to begin the season Wednesday when they travel to Bellevue CC for a pair of games. They face the host Bulldogs at 2 p.m. and Edmonds at 4.
Then it’s on to Vancouver, Wash., Thursday for two more games, vs. host Clark at 2 p.m. and Mount Hood in a rematch at 7.
The Walla Wallans also face road matches at Treasure Valley in Ontario, Ore., and vs. North Idaho in Coeur d’Alene as well as a two-day tournament in Spokane before making their Dietrich Dome debut by hosting their own tournament Sept 14-15.
The upcoming matches at Treasure Valley and North Idaho represent WWCC’s first two NWAC East Region battles. The Warriors host Wenatchee Sept. 21 in their first home league contest.
