WWCC beat Big Bend in regional volleyball match

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Winless Big Bend was no match for Walla Walla here Wednesday night as the Warriors swept past the Vikings in three sets in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region volleyball match.

The visiting Walla Wallans bowled over the home team 25-11, 25-4, 25-9 to even their regional record at 2-2 and improve to 17-12 on the season. The Vikings saw their records slide to 0-5 in league matches and 0-16 overall.

Ocean Bryan led the Warriors at the net with 10 kills and Lindsey Carpenter finished with seven kills and seven digs. Ashlin Orosco was also credited with seven kills while Kynady Greear and Emmah Peterson scored five kills each.

Abbey Schwager was WWCC’s playmaker with 27 assists and Hannah Ponds put up a team-best 17 digs. Schwager also earned six digs and Kacey Halbert was credited with four

For the Vikings, JoAndra Wilson finished with six kills, Savannah Bass tallied 12 assists and Hailey Miller accrued 10 digs.

In other East Region action Wednesday, Spokane swept Wenatchee and Yakima got the best of Blue Mountain in four sets.

Columbia Basin leads the East with a 5-0 record, just a half a step in front of 4-0 North Idaho. Spokane is now 3-1 in league matches and is alone in third place just ahead of the Warriors. Wenatchee is in fifth place with a 2-3 record, Treasure Valley is 2-4, Blue Mountain 1-3 and Big Bend last at 0-5.

The Warriors travel to North Idaho Friday while Big Bend visits Spokane. CBC is slated to host Wenatchee and Treasure Valley travels to Blue Mountain.
