WWCC picks up two more league wins

Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team picked off two Northwest Athletic Conference Eastern Region victories over the weekend.

The Warriors swept Columbia Basin, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 on Saturday afternoon in the Dietrich Dome after winning a five-game match at Yakima Valley on Friday, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-10.

“It’s great to get two more wins in the East Region,” WWCC coach Chelsie Speer said. “Beating Yakima in five was a great test of our ability to stay composed through inconsistent play. We really stepped up in sets four and five, finishing that match being aggressive and confident.”

Freshman rightside Cheyan James had eight kills and hit at a .375 clip on Saturday and Samantha Grove matched her with eight terminations.

Dani Burke had 16 assists and Tori Wegdahl had 20 digs for Walla Walla.

Sophomore middles led the Warriors with kills and blocks against YVC, Speer said. Savannah Ruark had 21 kills and five blocks and Grove had 15 kills and six blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Carpenter had 10 kills and 24 digs, Burke had 33 assists and 10 digs, and Alexis Garrison had 19 assists.

Wegdahl had 38 digs and defensive specialist Hannah Pond added 19 digs.

The Warriors host Blue Mountain Wednesday at 6 p.m.
