WWCC splits weekend matches

WENATCHEE — After dropping a 3-1 decision to East Region second place, 11-1, Columbia Basin Friday, Walla Walla Community College bounced back to sweep Wenatche Valley here Saturday in NWAC East Region volleyball action.

The Warriors were efficient in desposing of the Knights. The Warriors posted wins of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-14.

Abbey Schwager led the offense with 30 assists as Lindsey Carpenter slammed 12 kills and Ocean Bryan added 10 kills. On the defensive side, Hannah Pond led WWCC with 16 digs, and Carpenter added 12.

“We played CBC tough and came up short,” WWCC coach Chelsie Speer said. “I was happy to see us respond Saturday against Wenatchee.”

The Warriors dropped the first two sets Friday to the Hawks by identical 25-23 scores, but rallied to force a fourth set with a 25-21 win. The Hawks were up to the challenge as they closed out the 3-1 win with a 25-22 win.

Against the Hawks, Bryan led the Warriors with 19 kills. Carpenter chipped in 18 kills and contributed 16 digs to the Warrior defense. Schwager directed the offense with 45 assists .

The Warriors, at 6-4, set in fourth in the East. WWCC travels to third-place Spokane, 7-3, Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match.
