WWCC sweeps North Idaho

Walla Walla Community College came out of the locker room on fire here Friday in NWAC East volleyball action.

The Warriors defeated North Idaho 25-11 in the first set.

The momentum continued as the Warriors never let the Cardinals back into the match.

The Warriors closed out the 11-1 Cardinals in three straight winning the second set 25-15 and closing the match with a 25-16 win.

The Warriors improve to 9-4 in the East and the win clinched a NWAC thournament spot for the Warriors. Walla Walla is tied for third with Spokane, but has a four game lead over fifth place Yakima with only three matches left in the regular season. The top four East teams qualify for the tourney.

“This was a huge win for us,” Warriors coach Chelsie Speer said. “We played really well as a team. I’m very proud of how far these girls have come this year.”

Ocean Bryan led the Warrior attackers with 12 kills. Lindsey Carpenter added 11 kills. Kynady Greer had four blocks at the net for Walla Walla. Ashlin Orosco posted three blocks to go with seven kills. Abby Schwager ran the show as she put up 37 assists. Hannah Pond led the Warrior defense with 12 digs.

The Warriors travel to Blue Mountain in Pendleton on Wednesday before wrapping the regular season with home dates against Yakima Saturday, and Treasure Valley November 8.
