Duncan’s 20 leads WWCC women to win over Knights

WENATCHEE — Caitlin Duncan led four Walla Walla Community College players in double figures with 20 points here Saturday afternoon as the NWAACC Eastern Region-leading and No. 2-ranked Warriors registered a 69-55 women’s basketball victory over Wenatchee.

“Caitlin had a great game,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “She just took the ball to the hole. She was really good offensively. That was a big boost for us.”

Michelle Seitz, who set a school record with 44 points in a 77-53 home victory over Yakima Valley on Wednesday, contributed a double-double to the WWCC cause — 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Allie Kelsey added 12 points and Hailey Felgenhauer 10 for Walla Walla, which improved to 5-0 in the East and 16-1 overall.

“Michelle had a good line — another good night,” Hazeltine said. “Allie had a great all-around game. Her defense was really good.”

Hazeltine also praised the defensive efforts of Felgenhauer and MeShel Rad, who combined to limit Wenatchee’s leading scorer, Kassy Larson, to only two points on 1-for-8 shooting from the field.

“She killed us last year. She’s the toughest post we’ve faced this year,” Hazeltine said of Larson. “Hailey and MeShel took turns guarding her. They focused on her and did a great job.”

The Warriors outrebounded the Knights 50-38. They made 23-of-29 free-throw attempts, 15-of-17 in the second half, compared to Wenatchee’s 10-of-19 effort.

The win was No. 299 for Hazeltine, who entered her 14th season as the Warriors’ head coach with 283 wins and a .729 winning percentage.

She could pick up No. 300 today when WWCC hosts league-rival Spokane at 6 p.m.
