NWAACC Community Service Project

My Friend's Place logoThe NWAACC is pleased to announce that for our NWAACC Basketball Championship Tournament Community Service projects that we will be partnering with My Friends Place in Kennewick, Washington.

My Friends Place, a program of Safe Harbor Support Center, first opened in November 2011. It is currently the only teen shelter in the Tri-Cities. My Friends Place provides drop-in and overnight services to youth and young adults of ages 13-19, who might find themselves in an unstable nighttime residence, not feeling safe at home, or many other reasons. Safe Harbor Support Center’s focus is to help young people avoid or leave the streets, by re-uniting families, supplying survival necessities, finding safe homes, teaching self-sufficiency, and offering hope and support.

The NWAACC is asking that student-athletes from the teams competing in the championship tournament bring used clothing (decent condition) to the championship banquet (February 28, 2014) and the NWAACC will present the donated items to representatives from My Friends Place.  It is our goal that our student-athletes will present anywhere between 700-800 articles of clothing for teens in need.  Please work with your student-athletes on this important endeavor as the NWAACC continues to honor Character, Competition and Community.
