Warrior women split Warrior Classic games

Walla Walla Community College earned a Saturday date with the defending NWAC women’s basketball champion Peninsula with an 84-44 win Friday over Portland in action here at the Warrior Classic.

The defending and undefeated champions took advantage of a six-point Warrior third period and hung on for a 72-65 win.

“We had a horrible third quarter,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “We had a really bad shooting second half (the Warriors shot 29 percent from the field for the game).”

Kennedy Corrigan led the Warriors with 18 points. Emily Hancock chipped in 13 and Tabitha Wellsandt grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Warriors.

Cierra Moss led all scorers as she poured in 25 on 10-of-20 shooting for the Pirates.

On Friday, the Warriors completely dominated Portland. Corrigan had 13 points to lead a balanced Warrior attack that saw every player on the roster score.
