Walla Walla Community College swept a pair of women’s basketball games at the annual Warrior Classic.
Big starts were critical. The Warriors (5-0 record) raced to a 22-4 lead after one quarter and went on to defeat visiting Pacific D 73-43 Friday. Cierra Jo McKeown led three Warriors in double figures with 18 points, including 4 for 7 from beyond the arc. Jade Skidmore added 14 points and Teresa Aycock poured in 12.
One key for the Warriors was a 54-35 advantage in rebounds.
Saturday WWCC raced to a 16-0 first quarter advantage and went on to beat visiting Mt. Hood, 64-27. Skidmore paced the way with 13 points and eight steals. The Warriors had a 16-1 advantage in assists.
“They didn’t score until four minutes left in the second quarter and by then we were up 25-0,” said Warriors coach Bobbi Hazeltine. “We played outstanding defense the whole night.”
WWCC will next play at the Pierce Holiday Tournament in Tacoma, Dec. 9-11.
